Sirimahannop

Full-scale tall ship turned restaurant and bar at Asiatique, with sunset decks, seafood plates and cocktails above the Chao Phraya.

Sirimahannop is what happens when a piece of maritime history becomes a riverside bar. Permanently moored at Asiatique, this full-scale three-masted tall ship is a replica inspired by the 19th-century Thoon Kramom trading vessel, once part of Siam’s royal fleet. Today it’s one of Bangkok’s most photogenic spots for sunset drinks and dinner: teak decks under rigging, cushioned banquettes along the rail, a gleaming central bar and the Chao Phraya almost within arm’s reach. Instead of cruising, the ship stays docked, so you get all the romance of the river without ever leaving your table.

Tall-ship theatre with river and fairground views

Walking up the gangway at Asiatique, it’s hard not to feel a little stagey – in a good way. The pier buzzes with night-market energy, the Ferris wheel spins in the distance and then suddenly you’re on deck, surrounded by polished wood, coiled ropes and striped awnings. The upper deck is where most people gravitate: tables arranged along the rails, sofas pulled up under the rigging and that long, brass-trimmed bar that glows as the sky moves from pastel to inky blue.

As the evening unfolds, the ship takes on a split personality in the best way. At one end, couples work through cocktails and shared plates while keeping an eye on the river traffic. At the other, groups of friends make the most of sharing baskets, free-flow deals and playlists that lean towards upbeat without tipping into full party mode. The river is always there as a backdrop: dinner boats slide by, skyscrapers light up and every photo seems to catch a mast, a flag or some detail of the ship. The whole thing feels a touch theatrical but still grounded enough to be genuinely comfortable for a casual night out.

Downstairs, the lower deck and private rooms take the energy down a notch. Here the lighting is warmer, the ceiling lower and the mood more like a clubby dining room than an open-air bar. It’s where small celebrations, work events and family dinners tend to happen, helped by the fact that you can still hear the river outside but are shielded from wind and rain when the weather turns.

Seafood-forward plates, tapas and rum-heavy cocktails

Sirimahannop’s menu is built for sharing rather than formal courses. The kitchen leans into seafood, drawing inspiration from the ship’s “journey” between Thailand and Europe: think seafood baskets on ice with local prawns and clams, fish and chips with a Thai twist, tacos, curry baskets and grill plates that are easy to pick at between conversations. Portions are designed to be mixed and matched – a couple of small plates with drinks for sunset, or a more substantial spread if you want a full dinner onboard.
